Ra.One (2011)
IMDB: 4.8
Despite its respectable box office earnings, Ra.One falls short of achieving the same level of success as the Krrish franchise. This may be attributed to the fact that the film’s concept was ahead of its time, as Indian audiences were not as accustomed to the gaming universe as their Western counterparts. Shah Rukh Khan’s ambitious project, Ra.One, essentially brings two characters from the gaming world into the real one, setting them against each other. Ra.One assumes the role of the supervillain, while G.One stands as the superhero and the only force capable of halting Ra.One’s rampage.
The film was heavy on visual effects with most of it was shot on green screens, a new thing for Bollywood at that time. It was later converted into 3D. Made on a budget of 150 crores, it is one of the most expensive Indian film of all time

Shree (2013)
IMDB: 6.3
Shree doesn’t hold the distinction of being India’s very first foray into time travel in cinema. There were earlier attempts, but what sets Shree apart is its exploration and development of the time travel concept. The movie’s plot primarily revolves around Shree, who is grappling with financial difficulties and is presented with an offer to participate in an experimental time travel project for monetary gain. Nevertheless, the film found itself ahead of its time, struggling to resonate with Indian audiences who weren’t fully prepared for the complexities of such a science fiction narrative.
Nevertheless, Shree is a film deserving of attention as it pioneers the way for Indian cinema to venture into this genre, and such innovative attempts should be acknowledged and encouraged.

Science fiction has paved a path in the Indian film industry with remarkable success but even with a multitude of science fiction films produced over recent decades, there remains significant room for improvement in the genre by Indian filmmakers. The future of the science fiction genre in India appears promising, but it necessitates filmmakers to elevate their storytelling beyond the conventional themes of invisibility and time machines.
