I have been engaged in steel construction project management for more than ten years, and have many years of experience in foreign large-scale construction project management. Because I have come into contact with many foreign project managers who hold PMP certification and will always be engaged in international construction project management work in the future, so I took the PMP exam this year, and finally passed it in one go with a score of 5A. Many of my friends have asked me questions about the PMP exam.Such as,“Is it a good exam?”, “What is the purpose of taking the PMP?”,“What value can it bring?” and “How can I prepare for the exam and pass it in one go?”
So there is this article, talking about the core value of PMP and a little advice on how to prepare for the PMP exam.
What is PMP?
First of all, we would like to talk about what the PMP is.It refers to the Project Management Professional certification. It is a certification exam sponsored by the Project Management Institute (PMI) to assess the quality of a project manager’s knowledge and skills. Its purpose is to provide a uniform industry standard for project managers. For more information on entry requirements, exam dates, exam content and more, please visit SPOTO.
What is project management?
So what is project management? Project management is the effective management of all the work involved in a project by the project manager, within the constraints of limited resources, using a systematic view, methodology and theory. The whole process from the beginning of the decision to the end of the project is planned, organized, directed, coordinated, controlled and evaluated in order to achieve the project’s objectives. In modern management, the project is everything and everyone is a project manager. Project management is the science and art of turning the ideal into reality and the abstract into the concrete.

The above are more official and written definitions and statements. Now focus on the key points. In my opinion, nothing is not a project. The world’s big and small things are all projects. (Note:This sentence should not be usedin the test.) And the core value of project management is that everything runs in order. Please focus that here I am talking about running in order is the highest standard of project management and something that is only possible for top project managers or more accurately project leaders, so please understand this statement fully.
It is also important to note that although you have passed the PMP exam, it is not permanent. You must be re-certified every three years and during that time you need to accumulate at least 60 professional development units and ensure that you comply with the PMI ethical standards. Professional development units can be thought of as lifelong continuous learning.

My advice is to prepare for the exam according to your own situation, mainly concerned with your existing project management knowledge and skills. The preparation time is at least one month. As for someone whose project management knowledge is weak, you had better use three months. In addition, it is recommended to enroll in class training.Because I am usually busy at work, the preparation time planned for the exam is three months due to the work reasons. In the end, the actual situation is that my preparation time is less than a month.
5A One-time Pass Preparation Guide
First, read the PMBOK for two times. The first time is the quick browse to master a clear understanding of the knowledge framework of project management. You should focus on the five process groups and ten knowledge areas, learning logical thinking. The second time should be read with the video study.Get clear with those knowledge points which you have not understood. To understand them in depth in line with the logical thinking of PMP.
Second, finish at least two sets of mock questions. You must do mock questions. You must simulate the exam to do questions.Focus on one thing that the official PMP exam does not release the exam questions and the answers.Training institutions will release the mock exams based on the exam questions of previous years after the end of the exam.Students who have taken part in the exam would provide the type of questions forthe mock questions as soon as they finished the exam.Do the mock questions mainly to solve three problems.
- The time control. You need to finish a total of 200 questions. And you also need to prepare the time to finish the answer sheet. It is recommended that each question is controlled within 40 seconds. The longest time spent on one question can not exceed 1 minute. If a question you do not accurately do within 40 seconds, then after you spend 1 minute or 2 minutes, you will find that the probability of you doing it right and the probability of you guessingare basically the same. Why do I say so?Because your logic is not right. You can not read the question or do not understand the intention of the questioner. You do not know what the test points of the question is.
- It’s a physical exercise. The exam is from 9:00 to 13:00.What can this mean? You have to sit in the test room with a high degree of concentration for 4 hours. And there is a more critical issue. The chairs in the exam room are definitely not as comfortable as your usual chairs. And when it’s 12:00 noon, you must be hungry.
- Afterthe mock questionshave been done with checking the answer, no matter right or wrong, the test points of each question and the knowledge of each option should be reviewedagain to focus on learning to master those knowledge points you have missed.
Logical thinking is important. It’s the most important thing. It is also the biggest obstacle to determine whether you would pass the exam or not.So focus on developing your logical thinking for the PMP.The PMP certification exam is not difficult.According to the method I said, understanding the PMP project management logic and knowledge points thoroughlywill make you successfully pass the PMP exam. Finally, I wish you all success in passing the exam!
