Anthony Johnson had a heart attack in 2009 while driving to a comedy show, but he survived. Johnson said in 2018 that he was slated to star in the sequel to Friday, Next Friday, but was unexpectedly replaced at the last minute.
Anthony Johnson died in Los Angeles, 12 years after suffering a heart attack inside Laguardia Airport in New York in 2009. On Sept. 20, 2021, Johnson’s nephew verified his death. The cause of his death remains undisclosed.

Johnson’s father, Eddie Smith, was a stuntman and the founder of the Black Stuntmen’s Association when he was born in Compton, California. Johnson acknowledged his father with assisting him in breaking into the film industry by getting him to work on set.
