Middletown native Joey Logano is a prominent stock car racing driver who vies full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 22 Ford Mustang for Team Penske. Besides, he competes part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, driving the No. 54 Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing.
The race driver has now become the talk of the town after taking the title of 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. Logano claimed the trophy after 312 laps at the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. The win gives Logano his second career championship.
The first title came in 2018 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Las Vegas. Logano began Sunday on the pole in the No. 22 Team Penske Ford. Although 36 drivers started, just four, including Ross Chastain, Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell and Logano, were eligible for the series title after a playoff whittled the field down from 16.
Chastain finished third, Bell 10th and Elliott 28th. Logano and his team were undeniably the best all day at Phoenix. The 32-years-old racer led 188 of the race’s 312 laps. Not only that, but he was the top title-contending car for all but one of the race’s green-flag laps.
Furthermore, Joey’s win means that the Cup Series’ line of title winners winning the season’s final race continues. The driver who has won the Cup Series title has also prevailed in the race in every season of NASCAR’s winner-take-all finale form. As said earlier, it is the second time Logano has won the title of the NASCAR Cup series. So, let’s take a look at his first winning.

Joey Logano Won NASCAR Cup Series Title in 2018
Joey Logano won the 2018 Cup Series title when he defeated Busch, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. for the title at Homestead. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner headed into that season finale with two victories while the other three drivers in the final four had combined for 20.Â
In 2022, Logano entered the race, tied with Chastain as the betting underdog for the Championship. Moreover, Logano joined NASCAR in 2008 as a can’t-miss phenom for Joe Gibbs Racing. Logano finished sixth in his first Xfinity Series start as an 18-year-old and won in his third start in the series.
